WHAT ARE RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) piano exams?
RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) exams
Preparing for exams provides a structured and rewarding path for piano students to develop strong technique, musical expression, sight reading, and ear training. Students progress through introductory levels (A and B), then move through Grades 1–10, with each stage building confidence, skill, and musicianship.
RCM exams offer clear goals and a strong sense of achievement along the way, and certificates are recognized across Canada as a reflection of dedication and growth.
These exams can be taken either in-person in your current city, or virtually.
In person exams are available in your area or closest city several times a year
Online exams can be scheduled at any time from the comfort of your home
For advanced students, diploma-level programs such as ARCT (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto) and LRCM (Licentiate of the Royal Conservatory of Music) represent a high level of performance achievement.
Some of our students (whether young beginners, advanced or adult learners) wish to pursue these exams to give themselves a personal goal to work toward. This helps form useful practice habits, choose and learn musical pieces that inspire you, learn aspects of technique and ear-training which are imperative for developing musicianship.
In our studio, we prepare students who choose to do these exams with personalized instruction, encouragement, and a strong technical foundation.
Petya is also an active RCM examiner herself.
